Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember things between page loads and return visits — for example, that you are signed in or that you set a preference. Alongside cookies, we use a small number of similar technologies that behave in comparable ways.

Cookie

A small text file a website asks your browser to store on your device, then reads back on later requests or visits.

First-party vs third-party

First-party cookies are set by the site you are visiting (digitel.africa). Third-party cookies are set by another domain, such as an analytics provider whose code runs on the page.

Session vs persistent

A session cookie is deleted when you close your browser. A persistent cookie stays for a set period (its duration) or until you delete it.

Similar technologies

Techniques that do a cookie-like job. localStorage stores small values in your browser without sending them on every request; pixels (tiny transparent images or tags) can record that a page or email was loaded.

We use cookies to keep the site secure, remember your preferences, and understand — in aggregate — how the site is used so we can improve it. We group cookies into three categories: strictly necessary, analytics & performance, and preferences.

Under POPIA and, for visitors in the EU/EEA, the GDPR and ePrivacy rules, we set non-essential cookies (analytics and non-essential preferences) only after you give consent through our banner. Strictly-necessary cookies do not require consent because the site cannot function securely without them. Your consent choice is itself recorded so we can honour it on future visits.

• Accept — we set analytics and preference cookies in addition to the necessary ones.
• Reject — we set only strictly-necessary cookies; analytics stays off.
• Change your mind — reopen your choices anytime via the privacy choices control in the footer.

Strictly necessary

These are required for core functions such as security, load balancing, and remembering your consent choice. They are always active.

Analytics & performance

These help us understand how visitors use the site, in aggregate, so we can fix problems and improve. They run only if you accept.

Preferences

These remember choices you make so the site feels consistent for you. Where a preference is non-essential, we set it only after consent.

We load Google Analytics 4 (GA4) through Google Tag Manager. Google Tag Manager is a tag-loading container; it does not set analytics cookies on its own, but it loads GA4, which sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies listed above. These tags fire only after you accept analytics cookies.

You can also control cookies in your browser: most browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies and clear localStorage. The steps differ by browser — check its help pages. Clearing cookies will also remove your saved consent choice, so the banner will appear again.

Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser or extension signal that tells sites you do not want your information used for non-essential purposes. Where we detect a GPC signal, we treat it as a request to reject non-essential cookies and do not load analytics.

Do Not Track (DNT) is an older browser signal with no agreed industry standard for how sites should respond. Because there is no consistent way to honour it, we do not rely on DNT alone — please use our banner or the footer privacy choices control to set your preference, which we will apply.

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes to the technologies we use or to legal requirements. When we do, we update the version and updated date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent again through the banner.
